| Yeah, leaks are something I can do without thanks. I've been looking at the design of WC nipples and I just can't believe that they're a single fastener design. You could have two or even three collars that you clamp the hose over. Furthermore, if you noticed liquid leaking between the collars that would act like an early warning to pull the system apart and service it before the leaks happen.
That assumes that the leaks occurred for you guys at the nipple. I reckon I'm safe to assume that they did....
Hey Rev, you still keen to do some beer fuelled OC'ing on this piccyputer when I get it?
Also, (and this is a general call out) is there anyone here, on anyone that anyone knows of, that has a decent GPU lying about they'd want to sell? The reason being is that it will be up to a month before I lay my hands on the 5970 and I'd actually like to use my computer before that.....

| Well.... here it is! After months of pfaffing about trying to work out what I was going to spec I've finally settled on a spec that I'm pretty comfy with (I'm happy for you to comment on what you'd do better/different, it would be interetsing). After I put the order in there was some tooing and froing about what parts could and coiuldn't be got in this lifetime. The graphics card in particular was a sticking point but.....
HERE IT IS!!!!
- Samsung SH-S223C Internal 22x Speed DVD±RW Drive SATA
- Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 MB *Looking at the specs and what you pay, the Gigabyte just seemed like a much, much better board than the equivilent priced Asus boards
- Corsair CMG6GX3M3A2000C8 6GB (3x 2GB) (2000MHz) DDR3 * I could have gone for cheaper RAM but I figured that this has been tested to 2000Mhz so hopefully it won't burn out. Plus it comes with sexy fans.
- Intel BX80601920 CORE i7 920/ 2.66GHz/ 4.8GT QPI/ 8MB CACHE/ LGA1366 1- Antec CP-1000W ATX Power Supply
- Antec TWELVE HUNDRED Full Tower Gaming Case
- HD 5870 * Two of them in crossfire. Why wait up to a month for a 5970 when I can crossfire these, get better performance for the same price? Sure, there's probably more OCability in a 5970 but..... meh.
- WINDOWS 7 PRO 64BIT
- Asus VE246H 24" 2ms, 1920x1080P,
- Logitech GAMERS PACK (G9X + G19 + G13 + G35)
- Prolimatech Megahalems Rev 2 CPU Cooler
- A-RAM SSD PRO 128GB 2.5" MLC, 240/ 140Mb/ * 2 in RAID 0 for 246GB total. And speedy speedness.
- Noctua NF-P12-1300 120mm Fan
I hope you like it!

| Looks like a sturdy system Pete really nice, and the cards and ssd I am soooo jelous.
I am looking at comming over to your place soon, but we need to set a date, saturday week I have 2 weeks off, well the second week for me is optional. I can go back to work if I need the cash, I am going away for 5 nights camping down the coast, my younger brother just past away, and we had the funeral yesterday, and I really just need to get away and reflect, but yeah after that week away down the coast I am free to come over and maybe we can fire up a couple of snags and do some mild overclocking. | |

| Well, well, well! It would seem that CF 5870s are the clever boy's choice over a 5970: AnandTech: The Radeon HD 5970: Completing AMD's Takeover of the High End GPU Market

It's finally arrived!!!!!!!
Fired it up last night and all the installations went smoothly. I don't think they did a great job of putting it together, there's wires flying everywhere, I'm not sure they've cable tied everything all that well. Might need some remediation soon.
So, after the drivers are all installed and Crossfire set up (easy) I thought I'd fire up a game. So I pop Arma 2 into the drive and installlation took only a couple of minutes (nice).
I turned all of the settings pretty much up to max and settled in to play for an hour before going to bed.
Impressions?
Grrrrrrr!
Massively disappointed.....
The frame rates are terrible. Anyway, I'd heard through the grapevine that Arma doesn't run all that well on anything. So I thought I'd get onto Steam and download Crysis and see how that goes.
Five minutes into the downlaod and Optus throttles my fucking download! Damn you Optus and your shitty 8gb download limits!
So, I'll probably let you know in another three weeks how this thing goes once I punt Optus and go back to TPG.....

| Thanks heaps Rev for coming around and "sooping" up my computer - very, very, very happy!
Unfortunately it keeps resetting itself when I play games (Battlefield, Global Agenda), and it has once blue screened. I take it it needs some more voltage? What do you reckon? One thing for sure, heat isn't an issue.... I havent seen it go beyond 60c yet, so I reckon a little more voltage won't hurt it....

| Yeah a few more volts shouldnt be a problem Pete, but the 5970 and 5870 heat is a little worry from what your telling me.
Thanks for the 5870 and carton of beer, I am loving them both and I cant wait to get my habd on the other card in a few weeks.
I updated my CPUZ to reflect the new card .
Gimme a ring when you get the chance.

| Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday Revmelon,
I opened the case and replaced every single, poxy Antec fan with Cooler Master 2000rpm fans (complete with purty lights). Anyway, airflow through the case is massively improved and it was a fun couple of hours with screwdriver, drill and pliers for snapping plastic things what dun't fit proper like.
Built into the case is a mounting for a fan sitting behind one of the drive bays. I think to myself "bingo" I'll move that down to the bay that sits in front of the graphics card and it will blow directly into the graphics card intake! Awesome! So I spend half an hour doing it, connect it up, test it, and it blows really hard. Great, I think to myself, I might solve the 5970 heating issue.
What do you reckon happens next?
That's right.... the freakin' 5970 is too long.....
So I think to myself, oh well, I'll put it in the side mount on the case and have it blow over the graphics cards from the side. I put it in the bracket, connect power to the MB, test it, and it works ok. Go to close the side panel and......
The CPU cooler is too tall!
Spewing!
